Are U.S. retailers more frantic to make sales than ever this year?

I live in a rural area, and do a lot of business through the mail. Every online mail order retailer I have ever done business with has been stuffing my mailbox (both in real life and online) with offers, coupons, sales… you name it.

A couple have even made sales calls to my home number “just to let you know about our special bargains.”

And this morning, December 25th, I’ve gotten a flood of “after-Christmas sales” offers.

Even though I know that most of them depend on the end-of-the-year period to make up a significant portion of the year’s transactions, I can’t recall a year when the sales approaches seemed more frantic.

Has the retail sector gotten out of recession? Or are they in more trouble than ever?

Shopping online… it never fails.

Whenever I purchase something online, I get notice of a coupon or discount of the item I just purchased soon afterward and the store will not honor the discount after my recent purchase. Does anyone know when coupons or discounts are usually issued (i.e. every tuesday, every month on he 15th, etc.)? I kinda believe that retail is for suckers. =)

P.S. I hope this is in the right catergory… I couldn’t find one that focused only on shopping.

Where to buy a camera? (Online v.s. in store)?

I’m looking forward to buying my new camera because one of my friends mishandled my old Casio one. Now, as i look through the prices, the one that I set my eyes on is at 350 retail, but about 315 with a coupon for 10% (prices taken from circuitcity). The online shops, obviously cheaper, have it as low at 250. What are the takes of people buying ONLINE v.s. IN-STORE? (Customer service, warranties, etc.)

Retail Employees… Do you like working in retail … what do you dislike about rude customers ?

Seriously, I am getting so close to just not giving a damn if i loose my job for punching a customer. Why do some customers have to be so damn rude ??? My husband is in the military as an enlisted and so close to becoming an officer but why do many wives wear their husband’s rank. Like only because your husband is an officer does not make you one… I really don’t have to check for a military ID and then they just ask ” do i have to show my ID ” ? And then i say it is not necessary anymore …. but still pull out their freaking ID shoving it on my face like saying look..look.. look at me my husband is an officer i get special treatment !!!

I also hated when they buy an item that is worth less than what they got on and still request to triple bag it just to make sure it does not brake, like we are responsible if it does not make it out of the store
IT IS NOT OUR FAULT IF YOUR ASS IS SO CLUMSY… in that case just purchase it online and it will be delivered to your house safely.

I hate when they are not pleased because we cannot accept printed coupons or we don’t carry the cigarettes they want … we only carry the Soft pack

First of all i really don’t care if you threatened me to shop elsewhere that would make my day because i still get my paycheck and i will never have to see your ass in the store again… do me that favor !!!

I hated when customers pay with cash and throw it on the counter not even close to your hand … it’s like saying come and get this money this is what you work for… also please it is almost 2009 why do you still pay with a freaking check ???

And Why is it when they get upset they say ” If it wasn’t for us shopping here you would not have a job “….

excuse me … I am not dying to have this job and this job is not the only job i can get …

I just wish that they can put themselves in our situation and see that dealing with customers on a daily basis is harder than cleaning shit…i would much rather do that then deal with customers all day…This is abuse that we have to endure everyday because they can curse you out, call you out of your name, and you are not even allowed to say ANYTHING back !!! That is considered verbal abuse… what do you think… i would like to know some of your experiences.

I like helping customers… i even go the extra mile to help them out… when i’m on brake people ask me about products or show them where to find them and on my brake i still do it. I also have deployed to kuwait with AAFES because I like helping our soldiers… i just dislike the lack of respect they have towards associates we also work very hard…i spent more than 12 hours working sometimes we only had one meal it was so freaking hot in kuwait and to come home to this ????
This is a question for people that can relate and if you can’t … then this is not a question you should answer !!!

I was watching TV about extreme coupon savers and watched as they could easily pay a retail value or 350$ for 12$? How is this done dont coupons expire within a time and is it a combination of coupons and whats on sale with a savings bonus card designed for the store? if can explain how to get free coupons online if thats even possible without paying for them.

How do you sell credit in retail when customers only want to use their mileage cards?

Lets say your ringing in a transaction and at the end of that transaction you offer your customer a 10% discount if they apply for a store credit card and are approved. Like most people they decline the offer. Instead they insist on using their card that awards airline mileage per dollar spent. Our card offers free shipping on full priced merchandise, 10% of first transaction, monthly coupons, and payments ava online and in store locations. The fine print of our credit card agreement is a 24% interest. SO my question is how do i convince them that our card is better and how can i make my store more successful in exceeding their goal to percent for credit? Since that is a large part of how our success is measured.
