Ask The Experts About Groupon Jobs

Carol asks…

Would serving put a stop on my dream career?

I’m graduating high school this coming June, and have decided I’d like to serve in the Armed Forces (stuck between Marines and Air Force).

I love computers and I would like to create some sort of service or work with others on similar projects (like Facebook, Groupon, Google, Twitter, Skype, etc.) in California (seems like Silicon Valley is where it’s at for tech entrepreneurship).

Here’s my dilemma:

If I become an officer, then I’ll get out when I’m 25 (or 29 with an aviation option). Is that too late to begin a working life, let alone one dominated by people who have been working non-stop on similar services since graduation?

Would serving slow down my life and my dream job (to own my own successful web service)?

^ I love coding/programming/scripting/what have you…

admin answers:

You should talk to a recruiter, they have and use computers in the military; you could ask about your chances of getting such an assignments so that you can keep your skills current and employable after you’re out.
