Why are Borders bookstores so stingy with their clearance sale?
I heard that a lot of Borders bookstores are closing. They said they are having a clearance sale and that everything must go. It just so happens that the Borders close to where I work is closing. I visit the store and it’s packed!! And guess what, the clearance sale is only 20% off. How absurd! I’ve gotten Borders Rewards coupons for 33%, 40% and 50%. Not to mention that Amazon discounts their books for A LOT more than 20%. They can do better than 20%. Come on. And the fact that the store is crowded just goes to show that people are going gaga over this ridiculous discount.
Why is Borders so stingy with their clearance sale? And why are people going crazy over a measly 20% discount?

Well, they are more or less going out of buisness, no sense trying to give the store away. I dont know if its the case with borders, but some chains sell off entire stores to be liquidated, so it may be someone, some group, paid for all those books, and has to make sure they get their money back before the big discounts.
